Philadelphia Abortion Doctor Tortures And Murders Newborn Children, And Causes Death Of Women

If you haven't already read the news reports of this absolute horror, you can do so via the links below. But be warned--it is the most gruesome thing you will probably read in your life, even writers of horror novels couldn't make this stuff up. Click on the links to read the full articles. City of Philadelphia, Office of the District Attorney, Grand Jury Report on [Gosnell's] Women's Medical Society[1] (download PDF of the Report at the bottom of their page)
Gosnell staffed his decrepit and unsanitary clinic entirely with unlicensed personnel, let them practice medicine on unsuspecting patients, unsupervised, and directed them to heavily drug patients in his absence. In addition, he regularly performed abortions beyond the 24-week limit prescribed by law. As a result, viable babies were born. Gosnell killed them by plunging scissors into their spinal cords. He taught his staff to do the same.
Hot Air, Abortionist Faces Eight Counts of Murder in Philadelphia,[2] January 19, 2011
The district attorney felt the need to defend his prosecution to the media, for some reason:
"I am aware that abortion is a hot-button topic," said District Attorney Seth Williams. "But as District Attorney, my job is to carry out the law. A doctor who knowingly and systematically mistreats female patients, to the point that one of them dies in his so-called care, commits murder under the law. A doctor who cuts into the necks severing the spinal cords of living, breathing babies, who would survive with proper medical attention, is committing murder under the law."
Indeed. And it says something about the current debate over abortion that Williams even had to explain this. This is worse than the controversy in the 2008 presidential election about Barack Obama's successful action to block a bill requiring doctors to provide care to babies born alive during abortion procedures. This "doctor" allegedly went out of his way to kill them after the birth through a brutal and heartless procedure, not just neglect. And he made a fortune from doing so. [$1.8 million a year]
The Anchoress, Gosnell: Baby Feet Kick the Nation - Updated,[3] January 20, 2011
Of course this neglect toward patient's safety and the law is by design. A shoddy operation like Gosnell's could not have continued to perpetrate medical atrocities on women, unless somewhere along the line situations were going unreported and investigations were left unassigned as true-believers within the system looked determinedly away. See pages 9-15 of the [grand jury] report. In fact, just keep reading.
For them, I suppose, these dead or maimed women might be considered "collateral damage" in the efforts to preserve a "choice" they consider sacrosanct. If a few women perish along with the million babies per year, well, it's such a small number, right?
     [...]
And if some women are left scarred, maimed or infertile, well...probably they're the sort of women who shouldn't have babies, anyway, right?
After all, Margaret Sanger - the poster girl for pro-choice advocates in America - was all about making sure that certain races and certain classes of people were discouraged from reproducing. But you're not supposed to know that, or at least you're not supposed to acknowledge that. To do so would be as rude as forcing people to consider that the only way to prevent a pregnancy from advancing to new life is to "stop" it unnaturally, or to note that "stopping" is just a euphemism for "killing." Because that's the only way to stop new life from flourishing: by killing it.
But it's rude to mention that. It is also rude (and "shrill") to mention in polite company that the method of killing the new life involves reaching deep within a woman's body with unnatural instrumentation and either sucking the baby, bit-by-bit, through a vacuum tube into a jar, or scraping it out of her, limb-by-limb.
Standing On My Head, Land of the Free and Home of the Brave,[4] January 20, 2011
The scale of the incompetence and admission that [the authorities] did not regulate the abortion clinic for 'political reasons' is now emerging. It seems Gosnell was only caught because ordinary police turned up to investigate him on drugs charges and noticed the appalling conditions in the abortuary. [...]
Now the nation has to realize just how horrific the whole abortion industry is, and that it is not just the crimes of the greedy and gruesome Gosnell, but of every person who condones this horrible crime in any way. Gosnell had severed baby limbs kept in jars, killed newborn babies by putting a scissors in their neck and cutting their little spinal cord. [...] The only difference between this and the typical abortion is that the murder and dismemberment takes place in the mother's womb and the dismembered child is sucked out by vacuum pump. [...]
"Allow us to murder children" [...] "Just don't make us look at it."
     [...]
...what a cruel irony that all of this happens the week of the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, and the week of Martin Luther King Day [...]
The Wall Street Journal, Grand Jury Faults State Agencies in Abortion Case,[5] January 20, 2011
A grand jury concluded that the Philadelphia abortion doctor charged this week with eight murders, including those of seven babies born alive, was allowed to deliver care for years because oversight agencies ignored reports and failed to stop the activities at his clinic.
     [...]
"In the end, Gosnell was only caught by accident, when police raided his offices to seize evidence of his illegal prescription selling. Once law enforcement agents went in, they couldn't help noticing the disgusting conditions, the dazed patients, the discarded fetuses. That is why the complete regulatory collapse here is so inexcusable. It should have taken only one look," the grand jury report said.
The Divine Life (Eric Sammons), Gruesome Philly abortion clinic is the norm, not the exception,[6] January 20, 2011
Note especially that last line: the Health Department has not inspected abortion clinics - where major surgeries are performed - for over 17 years. Yet consider this quote from the city's health commissioner:
[...] the public should know that Gosnell's clinic was "abnormal" and "not the norm for abortion care."
How would Schwarz know this? They don't inspect abortion clinics!
Troy Newman, the head of Operation Rescue, has stated that he has never encountered an abortion clinic that didn't have significant violations - even by the pro-abortion standards of our health system. And this should not be shocking - anyone who decides to make a living killing innocent children is unlikely to be worried too much about the health of the mothers.
The Anchoress, Abortion, Language and Looking Away - Updated,[7] January 21, 2011
[...] the 281 page Grand Jury Report which brings his crimes into sickening detail and make it plain that Gosnell brought a depraved indifference to life and human dignity into his 'practice' if one could call it that. [...]
[...] the women who came to Gosnell were poor, and far along in their pregnancies. They paid exorbitant sums [...] stripped from the waist down and given not-so-much as a gown - only blood-stained blankets that were washed once a week. They were anesthetized by unlicensed persons while flea-infested cats roamed freely. That's just the tip of this iceberg [...] The babies who "precipitated" and "fell out" of women while no medical personnel were available; babies being pulled out of the pipes or "seeming to swim" in the toilet. Babies breathing and crying before their spinal cords were "snipped" and the bodies were thrown into empty milk-cartins, [sic] cat food containers [...] Women who were maimed or left infertile, or diseased or killed. The unwashed instruments, the bloody tables and stirrups, the feet severed from babies and kept as trophies.
The press is not going giving [sic] a full sense of the scope of this horrorshow, because they will want this story minimized and shoved down the memory hole as fast as possible. There are a few weak lines of spin being bandied about, but do not be fooled; this is about abortion [...] and about a mindset that will excuse a great deal for its sake [...]
Michelle Malkin, The Philadelphia Horror: How mass murder gets a pass,[8] January 21, 2011
Meanwhile, the death racketeers have launched a legislative and regulatory assault across the country on pro-life crisis pregnancy centers [...] who offer abortion alternatives, counseling, and family services to mostly poor, vulnerable, minority women.
     [...]
But the grand jury itself pointed out that loosened oversight of abortion clinics enacted under pro-choice former GOP governor Tom Ridge enabled Gosnell's criminal enterprise - and led to the heartless execution of hundreds of babies. Mass murder got a pass in the name of expanding "access" and appeasing abortion lobbyists. As the report made clear: "With the change of administration from [pro-life Democrat] Governor Casey to Governor Ridge," government health officials "concluded that inspections would be 'putting a barrier up to women' seeking abortions. Better to leave clinics to do as they pleased, even though, as Gosnell proved, that meant both women and babies would pay."
Deadly indifference to protecting life isn't tangential to the abortion industry's existence - it's at the core of it. The Philadelphia Horror is no anomaly. It's the logical, blood-curdling consequence of an evil, eugenics-rooted enterprise wrapped in feminist clothing.
Sister Toldjah, "Feminists" & the Gosnell case: Baby killing is different when it happens outside the womb,[9] January 21, 2011
Gosnell did business in a city that has several abortion clinics, at least one of which offers financial assistance, in a state that offers no-cost birth control (AND emergency contraception) to women who meet income requirements. You wrote that "If you're seeking an abortion but can't afford it, going to a doctor who provides substandard care on the cheap is certainly going to be an attractive option." But the grand jury report shows that Gosnell was anything but cheap. A first-trimester abortion can cost anywhere from $350 to $950 at Planned Parenthood. Gosnell was charging $2,500 or more for late-term abortions.
Whoops. It's clear someone read the grand jury's report and did a little research, and it wasn't Amanda Marcotte. Marcotte simply did what so many other militant abortion proponents do when the topic of abortion comes up: in customary knee-jerk fashion, she whipped out her handy dandy talking points sheet (well - I take that back: she's got the talking points down by heart) on how the pro-life movement is supposedly "forcing" poor women into going to unsafe clinics because of supposed "access" and "affordability" issues. Not surprising that her grasp on the facts is non-existent, considering facts typically play little to no role in the thought process of abortion proponents, anyway - as has been noted here time and time again.
     [...]
One thing we can ALL [...] agree on is that what happened at Dr. Gosnell's clinic with the patients and the babies born alive was horrific, grotesque, and inhumane. Sadly, though, pro-abortion forces [...] refuse to acknowledge that that same description accurately describes what happens inside the womb during an abortion, too, no matter in what stage the pregnancy is. They'd rather lie, misdirect, mislead, mischaracterize, avoid, deflect, and attempt to shut down the debate - at the expense of hundreds of thousands of innocent unborn babies each year. [...]

  1. This is truly sad but it speaks volumes about the abortion-minded. Pro-choice really isn't about benefiting women or even about letting women have various options. It's about having the 'choice' to kill anyone who you view as not beneficial to you at that moment. Period.
