"The estrogen-progesterone combination contained in the pill and hormone replacement therapies was declared a Class 1 carcinogen by the World Health Organization in 2005. All Class 1 carcinogens have been found to cause cancer in both lab and human studies. This means the ingredients in the pill are now listed in the same category as arsenic, asbestos, radium and tobacco smoke."

NOTE: Natural Family Planning (NFP) is a scientific-research-based, healthier alternative to contraceptives, hasn't the harmful side-effects of contraceptives, and is virtually cost free. Not only do women have more control over their bodies, but studies have found that couples who use NFP have much higher rates of staying together and marital happiness.
For more information on the various NFP methods, see the list at OMS (includes links to the Sympto-Thermo Method at Serena, Billings Ovulation Method, and NaPro Technology). Also, see the NFP Resources drop down menu for more information and a list of the scientific research.

THE PILL (& IBD: Crohn's & Colitis) The Risk of Oral Contraceptive in the Etiology of Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Meta-Analysis
J.A. Cornish, et al., *The American Journal of Gastroenterology, 2008.
- "This study provides evidence of an association between the use of oral contraceptive agents and development of IBD, in particular [Crohn's Disease]"
THE PILL Study: Birth Control Pill Alters Women's Memories
S. Brinkmann, www.womenofgrace.com, September 13, 2011
U.S STUDY: Shawn E. Nielsen, et al. University of California, Irvine. Neurobiology of Learning and Memory, Volume 96, Issue 2, September 2011, pp. 378-384. (Access the study via ScienceDirect.)
- The study found hormonal contraceptives interfere with the way women recall information, they alter a woman's memory.
- For example, they are less likely to retain factual details in memories of emotional events.
- The findings of this study "are in keeping with previous studies on how hormones ... effect memory".
- This could be "why women experience post-traumatic stress syndrome [PTSD] more frequently than men".
INJECTIONS Study: Use of Depo Provera Increases Breast Cancer Risk
S. Brinkmann, www.womenofgrace.com, June 13, 2012
U.S. STUDY: Christopher Li, et al., Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Cancer Research, Volume 72, Issue 8, April 15, 2012. (Free public access to the study can be found at Cancer Research.)
- Women who use this birth control have a statistically significant 2.2-fold (95% per abstract) "increased risk of developing invasive breast cancer".
- It's the fifth study conducted over several countries that have concluded that" DMPA use is associated with a 1.5- to 2.3-fold increased rick of breast cancer."
- "Like cancer-causing oral contraceptives ... and ... hormonal replacement therapy, the DMPA-breast cancer link supports an abortion-breast cancer link."
- 2004: "Studies liking prolonged use to irreversible osteoporosis prompted the Food and Drug Administration to demand that the manufacturer put a new warning on the label".
EMERGENCY CONTRACEPTION Emergency Contraceptives: Not the Best for Adolescents
*American College of Pediatricians, February 2014 (Numerous studies are cited in this statement.)
- "Rates of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among teens increased at a faster rate in those areas with free EC" compared to areas without free access.
- Trend toward increased rate of teen pregnancies in areas with access to free EC.
- "No studies have demonstrated that improved access to emergency contraception reduces the pregnancy rate in a population."
- In what ways some early studies have been poorly designed and researched.
- " 'Ready access' to EC may place adolescent girls at increased risk for abuse by sexual predators."
- It bypasses parental involvement.
CONFERENCES
Surgeon: birth control pill a 'molotov cocktail' for breast cancer
Kathleen Gilbert, LifeSiteNews, December 6, 2010
CONFERENCE: Washington, DC, USA, Friday, December 3, 2010
SPEAKER: Dr. Angela Lanfranchi, breast surgical oncologist and co-founder of the Breast Cancer Prevention Institute
- As often as doctors prescribe the hormonal birth control pill they are prescribing what the World Health Organization classes as a Group One carcinogen.
- "When is it ever right to give a group one carcinogen to a healthy woman?"
- The pill has been strongly linked to an increased risk of breast cancer.
- Dr. Lanfranchi linked pill use to the 660% rise in non-invasive breast cancer since 1973.
- Researchers have known the pill's cancer link for over 20 years.
- Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) was found to be carcinogenic in 2002; hormonal contraception is essentially the same drug as HRT
- The World Health Organization classed the hormonal birth control pill as a group one carcinogen in 2005 (the same category as asbestos, radium, uv-emitting tanning devices).
- 2006: "Mayo Clinic meta-analysis that concluded that breast cancer risk rises 50 percent for women taking oral contraceptives four or more years before a full-term pregnancy".
- 2009: "Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center found that women starting the pill before [the age of] 18 nearly quadruple their risk of triple negative breast cancer".
- "Swedish oncologist Hakan Olsson concluded that pill use before the age of 20 increases a young woman's breast cancer risk by more than 1000 percent".
- Dr. Lanfranchi asks: "Is this child abuse?"
DEATHS
17-year-old ballerina's death caused by birth control pill doctors believe
Fr. Mark Hodges, LifeSiteNews, April 26, 2016
- Healthy Romanian ballerina Maria Santa died from a blood clot caused by oral contraceptives,
- Although see saw several doctors from the time the symptoms started, none of the medical professionals suspected the cause.
- Three or 4 patients per year are seen in Greater Manchester, England with [blood clots caused by oral contraceptives], Dr. Greenbaum said.
- The coroner recorded Maria's death as from "natural causes".
- NOTE: How can deaths caused by complications from the pill be followed or studied if they are not recorded as such? Is this the reason for the belief that blood clots from the pill are rare? This belief is certainly why Maria died from blood clots the doctors, even the emergency doctor, did not suspect, as the medical community begins their diagnosis and treatment from the most probable causes of the symptoms.
The Pill Really Does Kill
S. Brinkmann, www.womenofgrace.com, June 2, 2015
- Fallan Kurek, 21 years old from Australia, died from blood clots caused by the pill. Symptoms started 25 days after beginning to take the pill. She was misdiagnosed.
- Annually, 1 in 3000 women who take hormonal contraceptives will get blood clots.
- A 29 year old woman went blind from taking Provera along with the Mirena IUD.
- A 12 year old girl had a stroke 3 months after being perscribed Yasmin. She now suffers from asphasia from the brain damage the stroke caused.
- As of the writing of the article, there are more than 10,000 lawsuits against Bayer from women who have been injured from Yasmin or Yaz birth control pill.
- "Drugs such as the IUD, Depo-Provera, NuvaRing, the Ortho-Evra patch and Plan B Morning-After-Pills are all abortifacients" (i.e., they kill unborn human babies).
- "The pill kills babies, hurts and sometimes kills women ... causes cancer and other illnesses, and has had adverse effects even on our ecology and in waterways"
BOOKS
Sweetening the Pill: Or How We Get Hooked on Hormonal Birth Control
*Holly Grigg-Spall
- Outlines the physical risks of taking what the World Health Organization has listed as a Class 1 carcinogen, namely, the birth control pill
- Many studies are documented in the book
